Geraldine Yang-Peterson

Geraldine Yang is a Consultant Counselling Psychologist registered with the Singapore Registry of Psychologists as a Counselling Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor (SRP). She specialises in working with families in crisis and brings more than 20 years of experience in the psychology and counselling field.

She is an Interdisciplinary Collaborative Family Practitioner (ICFP), Parenting Coordinator (PC), child-inclusive mediation trained and is a member of the Panel of Therapeutic Specialist of the Family Justice Court. Her work includes supporting families facing ongoing conflict, particularly in high-conflict child custody and visitation matters, with a focus on promoting child-centred and sustainable outcomes.

Prior to founding Empowering Counselling and Psychological Consultancy Services, Geraldine Yang served with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), where she worked closely with early-risk and at-risk children, adolescents, adults, and families in crisis. Her experience included supporting children and adolescents affected by trauma and behavioural difficulties, as well as working with adolescent and adult offenders and their family systems. In recognition of her contributions, she received the PS21 Public Service Award and the MSF Star Service Award in 2014.

Clinically, Geraldine Yang adopts a client-centred approach and is experienced in conducting psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for families in transition, as well as for clinical and forensic populations. Her areas of practice include marital and partner-related issues, parenting, violence and sexualised behaviours, self-injurious and suicidal behaviours, attachment-related difficulties, emotional functioning, crisis intervention, and trauma. She is also experienced in areas of parenting capacity, custody evaluations and family reunification.

Her therapeutic work draws from a range of evidence-based approaches, including the Gottman approach, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Relapse Prevention Model (RP), Good Lives Model (GLM), and the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RnR) model. She is also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and as a Caring Actions in Response to Emergencies (CARE) officer.

 

In addition to her clinical practice, Geraldine Yang has provided supervision, consultation, talks, and training for school, social service sector and the public on topics such as parenting, behavioural and emotional concerns, and stress management, particularly for adolescents and child's disclosures. She is also the creator of the Teen Choices series, a programme of talks designed to support adolescents in navigating life’s challenges.
