Geraldine Yang-Peterson

Geraldine Yang-Peterson is a Consultant Counselling Psychologist registered with both Singapore Registry of Psychologists and the Singapore Association of Counsellors as a counselling Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor (SRP). She specialises in the area of Families in Crisis.

She is an Interdisciplinary Collaborative Family Practitioner (ICFP), and a Parenting Coordinator (PC) who offers services that facilitates in the management of ongoing issues in high conflict child custody and visitation cases.

She is also child-inclusive mediation trained. Apart from being a qualified trainer for Psychological First Aid and Be the Light - Crisis Intervention for children and youth, she is also trained in other crisis management protocols such as Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Skills for Psychological Recovery and ASIST Suicide Intervention.

Geraldine has more than 20 years’ work experience in the Psychology and Counselling field working with early-risk and at-risk children, adolescents, and families in crisis. (Marital and Partner related issues, Parenting).

Prior to Empowering Counselling and Psychological Consultancy Services, Geraldine was with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). There, she journeyed with children and adolescents who had been traumatized, and/or were exhibiting behavioural issues. She also journeyed with adolescent and adult offenders as well as worked with the family systems.

She was awarded PS21 Public Service Award (2014) as well as the Ministry of Social and Family Development Star Service Award (2014) during her time with the Ministry.

Clinically, Geraldine adopts a client-centered approach. She is experienced in conducting psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for families in transitions as well as the clinical and forensic population.

Her clinical experience lies in areas pertaining to violence and sexualised behaviours, self-injurious and suicidal behaviours, attachment disorders, emotional functioning, crisis intervention and trauma. She is also experienced in parenting capacity, and custody evaluation. In addition to her clinical load, she was also involved in rendering supervision and consultation services. Geraldine was previously involved in an organizational partnership with the then Family and Juvenile Justice Centre (FJJC) on the Family Violence Outreach programme. She uses the Gottman approach for partner / marital issues, is trained and experienced in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Relapse Prevention Model (RP), Good Lives Model (GLM), and RiskNeed-Responsivity Model (RnR).

She is also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and is a certified Caring Actions in Response to Emergencies (CARE) officer.

Geraldine has conducted talks and training for schools and the public on a variety of topics such as parenting, behavioural, emotional and stress management. specific for the adolescents in school. Geraldine is also behind the creation of the ‘Teen Choices’ series – a series of talks relevant to adolescents dealing with life’s challenges.
